The origins of the Giostra of the Saracino go back to ancient time , since the age of Carlo Magno and then of the Crusades, when bloody tournament and mortal duels were fought that were then the novellistic and fantastic support of many epic poems.
The Giostra of the Saracino constitutes one evolutionary transformation of these tournament: the adversary is constituted from symbolic puppet bringing on its right arm a offersive weapon called Mazzafrusto and on that left a shield.
The ability of the knight is just in trying to center, to the gallop, the ring place on the shield of the puppet.
The Giostra of the Saracino carries out moreover every year accompanied from an Historical Procession in customs of the age and from the exhibitions of the Group Sbandieratori Tamburini and Chiarine.
Thanks to this manifestation a last history fragment is lived again for a moment.
